Ankara (Türkiye) – the most detailed information about the city with a photo. The main attractions of Ankara with descriptions, guides and maps.
Ankara City (Türkiye)
Ankara is the capital of Turkey and the country’s second most populated city after Istanbul. It is a dynamic metropolis located in the hills of Central Anatolia. Ankara is the heart of the Republic of Turkey, a city with a strong personality and an interesting synthesis of East and West. This is a real symbol of modern Turkey, the place from which a new era began for the Turkish people.
Ankara is a huge administrative center and university city full of civil servants, office workers, diplomats and students. Often tourists use the capital of Turkey as a transit point on their way to Konya or Cappadocia. Of course, Ankara is inferior to other cities in Turkey in terms of the number of attractions and cultural monuments. But it has a lot to offer the tourist: excellent restaurants and cafes, many museums and galleries, modern architecture and a vibrant nightlife.
Geography and climate
Ankara is located on the Anatolian Plateau at the confluence of the river of the same name with the Chubuk River. The average height is about 900 meters above sea level. The climate is continental semi-arid. Summer is hot and dry. The thermometer often “passes” over +35 ° C. But the nights are quite cool even in summer. Winter is cold and quite snowy. Frosts below -15° are not some extraordinary phenomenon. A little more than 400 mm of precipitation falls annually.
