- Parma Cathedral – an interesting architectural monument
Parma Cathedral – Duomo di Parma (Duomo di Parma) is a Catholic church dedicated to the Ascension of the Virgin. It is a religious and architectural monument with a long history. The temple is located on the Cathedral (Cathedral) square of the city.
Initially, in the 5th century, in its place was the early Christian Basilica of the Virgin Mary, which burned down in the 9th century. Then the cathedral was built, which was also destroyed in a fire two centuries later.
The Cathedral of Parma (3 in turn) was built by the Comachini masters in 1074. The building was badly damaged due to an earthquake in 1117, after which it was restored.
The completion of the construction of the building, including the creation of facades, was carried out by the architect Benedetto Antelami – it was he who gave the cathedral the look that we can see today.
